Welcome to the Wickstead Lab

The lab's research interests include aspects of genome architecture, chromosome segregation, molecular motor function and multigene-family evolution. A uniting factor behind these topics is the importance they have to understanding the biology of parasites and the evolution of complex cells. Much of the work in the lab involves the parasite Trypanosoma brucei, which causes a fatal disease known as "sleeping sickness" in humans.

Research in the lab often integrates wet-bench molecular biology with bioinformatic and mathematical tools. In an age where so much genomic information is becoming available, these approaches can greatly speed-up biological research and help us to ask the right questions in the right systems.
